Race & Race won the English National GC Doubles Championship

[<<] [>>] by Chris Sheen at Hunstanton Croquet Club
1 Aug 2010 (GC - Championships)

Father and son team Jeff and Tim Race won the English National GC Doubles Championship, beating Chris and Roddy Sheen
1-7, 7-5, 7-3

A disappointing turnout of only four pairs contested the Championship at Hunstanton. Nonetheless it was a close fought tournament on some good fast lawns, and it was local pair of father & son, Jeff & Tim Race, who led the way from the block with three wins from Chris & Roddy Sheen with two, Freda Vitty & Abdul Ahmad one & Patricia Duke-Cox and Roy Ware.

In the knockout section, each of the semi-finals were close affairs being won by two games to one by the Race's and the Sheen's who then met in the final. The final in turn was won by the Race's 1-7, 7-5, 7-3 and we may have witnessed the emergence of a new young star in Tim Race who, despite being the highest handicapped player on the lawn, more than held his own. With Jeff's experience and some very straight hitting they wore the Sheen's down despite a weak first game. All credit to them and thanks to the Hunstanton 'crowd' who turned out to watch.
