Ashby beat Letchworth 4-3

Friday the thirteenth was destined to prove unlucky for either father or son when Ray and Nick Mounfield captained their respective teams in this Golf Croquet Inter-Club semi-final.
The morning singles were both won in two games by Ashby but the first two games of doubles were shared, each game being decided at the thirteenth hoop. With lunch scheduled for a little later the players embarked on their third game. Nick and David (Letchworth) raced to a 5-1 lead, but Will and Mike fought back and this game also ended at the thirteenth hoop, which Letchworth won. So, at the break, the match score stood at 2-1 to the hosts.
After lunch all four singles went to a third, deciding, game. Consequently it was late in the day before either team emerged as victors. Nick and David won their games for Letchworth and Rachel and Ray won theirs for Ashby.
Ashby had managed to hold on to their narrow morning lead and therefore progress to the final.
