Chris Roberts won the Six Lawns Tournament held at Hamptworth, Littleton and Winchester Croquet Clubs

This fun event had a big difference this year; having played on the lush lawns of Winchester and Littleton the competitors then moved on to Hamptworth for the Sunday leg only to find they were on the specially prepared and extremely arid conditions which had caused so much difficulty to the Solomon teams. The only concession to the Six Lawn players was that the hoops were extracted and the holes filled with water, which took the sting out of the hoops. None the less, the lawns were running at up to 14 Plummers and the hoops were set as for the Solomon.

On the Friday, one block of seven played at Littleton and the other block at Winchester and players then exchanged venues on the Saturday. This produced a knock out competition of the eight best players on the Sunday at Hamptworth with the eventual winner Chris Roberts beating Frances Colman.

The social side, which is so important to this event, had been planned around the climax and Closing Ceremony of the Solomon but this was pre-empted by an early win by the Americans, so we settled for Fish and Chips at the Hamptworth Club House. A good pub dinner was also enjoyed on Saturday evening. The Club Sunday carvery was also much appreciated.
