The Dorset Open Golf Croquet Championship was played at the E Dorset Club over the weekend of 6/7 Aug 2011, eighteen players competing. Initial play was two blocks of nine, all play all. To ensure all block play was completed on the Saturday, manager, Bill Arliss, imposed a time limit of 50 minutes. This achieved the objective but play in block A did finish rather late on the Saturday with seven games going to time but only one in block B.
The top four in each block went through to a knockout stage giving a quarter final line up of Ryan Cabble and Kath Burt, Richard Thompson and John Spiers, Carole Jackson and Tom Weston, plus William Ormerod and Jack Wicks. As expected the two youngsters reached the final with Jack eventually winning 3-7, 7-2, 7-4. Carole Jackson fought back from 9-8 down to eventually win 10-9 in the third/fourth place playoff.
Although all main knockout matches were played as best of three, 13 point games with cumulative time limits of 60.40,30 minutes in place, all games were completed and the presentation made by a very respectable 4.00pm.
