In permanently windy and occasionally showery, but reasonably warm, weather a rather reduced field competed for the Chapman Challenge Cup. The lawns were playing well, but the strength of the gusts of wind was occasionally so high that mallets were deflected during the swing and balls were blown off course.
With only six competitors, the tournament was "all play all", with provision for a final in the event of a tie after five rounds.
Ian Fugeman (14) 4/5
Eileen Gallagher (12) 4/5
Arthur Lindley (7) 3/5
Eileen Rossiter (20) 2/5
Peter Cole (10) 1/5
Andrew Rutland (20) 1/5
Ian Fugeman beat Eileen Gallagher +3(T) in a 14 point play-off, using his one bisque to good effect to set up a 5-hoop break that proved to be decisive.
