Ryan Cabble won the Haste Cup at Sidmouth Open Weekend

[<<] [>>] by Helen Pryor at Sidmouth
28-29 April 2012 (GC)

The tournament was held as a 2 Block 'all play all' American Tournament, playing 19 point games.

24 games in each block were played on the first day, but on the second day we had only one court available, as the other three courts had standing water and were unfit to play on. Because of a late start, and the worsening weather conditions, of games 25-28 only the games that had to be played were done so, in order to get correct placings for 1st and 2nd in each block.

The Semi-finals were then played as 19 block games, followed by a Finals as the 'best of three' 13 point games - as required.

The result was: Winner: Ryan Cabble: (Haste Cup); Runner-up: William Ormerod.

As there was no court available, or time, for the play-off for 3rd & 4th positions there was a little concern regarding the points for these positions.

The losing semi-finalists Richard Brooks and Nicholas Cheyne had both won 6 out of the 7 games in their block (Block A). Richard Brooks was declared the winner of the block as he beat Nicholas Cheyne. Nicholas Cheyne ran 66 hoops in total, Richard Brooks ran 68 hoops, Nicholas Cheyne was +12 on net hoops and Richard Brooks +16.

Tournament Referee: Ian Friedlander.
