Trevor Longman won the Ramsgate AC Handicap Singles Weekend

[<<] [>>] by Charlie Martin at Ramsgate CC
7 Jul 2013 (AC - Handicap)

Visitors to Ramsgate C.C. usually expect overcast, blustery conditions, but not so this weekend. Wall to wall sunshine was accompanied by a gentle sea breeze that moderated temperatures to a pleasant degree.
Twelve players took part with handicaps ranging from 16 down to 6. Roger Loram, who managed the weekend, worked to a Swiss format and by the end of the day, only two players, Trevor Longman and Charlie Martin, had won all three of their matches. The following morning saw them both winning their respective games, so they came head to head for the final.
Charlie held the title from the previous two years and Trevor had been runner-up on two previous occasions. This fact possibly gave him the edge, for he played his game with a quiet, steady determination, and he ended victorious with a respectable 26 - 14 win.
As usual, the lawns were superb, the catering excellent and the visitors vowed to return another year.
