The CA's Management Committee has approved changes to the Selection Policy for team and individual events. The changes are to reflect the change from GB to England for the MacRobertson Shield, the introduction of the Golf Croquet World Team Championship, and the concerns of the panel which heard an appeal about selection for that event. In particular:
- Evidence of a good amount of play at the top level in the relevant code will be required for selection.
- Selectors for a team should stand down if they are eligible to play for a team that might meet it in the event.
- Players are now required to inform the Chairman of Selectors if they have any fitness concerns that may prevent them playing throughout an event.
- The selection criteria for the MacRobertson Shield and GC World Team Championship have been expanded to read:
The sole aim is to select the team that is most likely to win the event, subject to any financial constraints imposed on the size of the squad. In addition to the individual results of the available players, other relevant factors, such as their fitness, availability for the entire event, and potential to form successful doubles pairs may be considered.
- The ground on which an appeal against selection can be lodged has been widened to be an allegation of "a material departure from" rather than "a wilful disregard of" the policy or procedure. Although the selectors' judgement of an individual still cannot be challenged, use of incorrect information is no longer excluded. A procedure for raising concerns with the Chairman of Selectors, in the hope of a rapid resolution, has been introduced, with a time limit of two weeks for lodging a formal appeal.
