28 July 2013 (AC)

Arthur Lindley (H/C 5 Guildford & Godalming) won the Eclipse Goblet.

Thirteen players including 5 visitors enjoyed a splendid sunny weekend on the Highfield Park lawns, playing 3-hour timed, level advanced games, flexible Swiss format.

On the completion of Saturdays games Arthur & Derek Blow were leading on 100%, with Richard Stevens, Paul Wolff & Dave Gunn on 66%.

Sunday morning saw a victorious Arthur +11 against Richard with Paul +8T against Derek and Dave +19 against Jonathan Toye.

The Sunday afternoon games Arthur v Paul & Derek v Dave were intriguing with a chance of a 3way tie! Both games saw varying swings of fortune & misfortune, Arthur just prevailing +4T and Dave winning +12.

From the following pack of players, Lawrence managed to engineer a run of 3 wins on the trot to finish 3rd overall. Lawrence was 4 hoops down when time was called in one game, he hit in, made 4 hoops & pegged his own ball out, '+1 on time' comes to mind, maybe it's on his reading list!

Winner - Arthur Lindley(5) 100% with 5 wins from 5
Runner up - Dave Gunn (4) 80% with 4 wins from 5
3rd - Lawrence Whittaker (5) 75% with 3 wins from 4

Derek, Richard & Paul all finished on 66%, Mike Bowser 50%

Many thanks for the caterers - Pat, Viv & Bob.

Our groundsman, Charlie found a live magpie in the kitchen prior to start of play on Saturday, it was unharmed & duly released.

As a consequence of this 'Omen' the club wish to make it clear that they are in NO way responsibility for any infelicity whilst players are brandishing a mallet on the lawns!
