Six GC players met at Hamptworth to contest the Kate Jones Memorial Trophy on the 10th and 11th August. The format was all-play-all matches in the best of three games. Pleasantly hosted, as always by Janet and Richard at the club, all players greatly enjoyed the weekend of croquet.
After day 1, Dave Crawford had pulled away slightly with three match wins and just one game lost to a very determined Andrew Dymond. Both Andrew and Tom Weston followed each with two match wins. So on day 2 there was all to play for. David extended his lead by winning against Keith Southern while Tom and Andrew played their key match; Tom prevailed. Dave, having already secured an unassailable lead, took his final match against Richard Harris. Keith Southern played accurately to defeat Tom in the last match of the day.
The event was co-managed by the six players in good weather for croquet on fast lawns with the usual great hospitality at this venue. All players heartily, and with the odd pint and glass of wine, wished Helean Fensome well as she left to go for hip surgery shortly.
