Gina Lewis won the Surbiton Advanced Handicap Weekend

[<<] [>>] by Martin Burger at Surbiton Croquet Club
13 October 2013 (AC - Handicap)

The ARK was back to its traditional Mid-October slot but with hardly any other events clashing the entry was disappointingly low , though this turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

We had a typical spread of handicaps for an advanced handicap (two minus, a 10 and 12 , and the rest single figures). Generally conditions favoured the upper end of the range , the pace of the courts making holding a break together easier than is often the case. Although most players played only 2 or 3 games on a pleasant Saturday the only two unbeaten players were Gina Lewis and Paul Watson.

The forecast for Sunday was vile and so it proved . The rain which had started around dawn turned heavy by 10 and all courts but court 1 had substantial puddles by 11:30 though the Bow-Dry could alleviate critical cases . Gina v Paul was fortunately on 1 . Gina won comfortably to be the only unbeaten player and with
more heavy rain forecast it seemed best to have lunch and declare her the winner.

She had conceded a total of 2 points against a -1.5 , 0 and 1.5, and won +11 against Martin Burger.
Meanwhile a TP was recorded by Sam Murray against Don Beck . Sam was the most successful of the 0 and better with 4/6 .
George Noble again did sterling work with lawn preparation , hoop setting , and in the kitchen along with the other helpers.
