New Zealand Won the MacRobertson Shield

[<<] [>>] by Dr Ian Vincent at Mt.Maunganui
15th January 2014 (The MacRobertson Shield)

Congratulations to New Zealand for gaining a winning 11-6 lead on the last day of the final test of the MacRobertson Shield, winning the first two matches to finish. Their captain, Aaaron Westerby, was fittingly first to finish, beating Stephen Mulliner in two games. The winning rubber was taken by Toby Garrison, who won against the England captain, Samir Patel, also in two games. To seal victory, England needed to win five of the six rubbers on the final day, or New Zealand two.

The lawns provided a good test, having dried out with the sun and win on the earlier days, though were easier on the final day when the wind dropped.
