Mike Town, in sparkling form, triumphed in this year's 'Selectors'. A rejuvenated Beatrice McGlen was a great runner-up. The third place play-off between losing semi-finalists was won by Andy Myers, ahead of Nick Steiner. A ring-rusty Dave Trimmer won the Consolation Swiss with 6/8.
A stronger than usual field included a former winner and three previous Treasurers Tankard competitors. The entry conditions favour up-and-coming players. In common with the rest of British croquet we were short of these and had just two: Andy Myers and Omied Hallam. Both played with distinction, if not consistency.
Hamptworth lawns, with no automatic watering system, were unusually patchy and tricky, with most games lasting over two hours and some over three. There were few attempts at TPs and only one succeeded, smoothly executed by Dave Trimmer in the last afternoon.
