CA Launches New "GC Championship Referee" Scheme

[<<] [>>] by Martin French
2nd April 2015 (CqE Official News)

Following a survey of referees and players last autumn, a new category of GC Championship Referee has been established by the GC Rules Committee. Experienced referees are encouraged to become qualified as GC Championship Referees. As the pool of Championship Referees grows, it is expected they will increasingly be called upon to officiate at the most important events staged within the Domain.

To be eligible to become a new GC Championship Referee the criteria are:

1. Been an active GC Referee for at least 2 years, and

2. At some time in past 5 years, played in top class GC events and acquired a ranking grade of 1800 or more.

If eligible, an additional more thorough on-lawn test will be required (but no further written exam); this test will be conducted by two GC Examining Referees. Candidates may apply to the Chairman of GC Rules Committee for consideration at any time.

Kick-Starting the Scheme

To establish the scheme an experienced panel has directly appointed the following as GC Championship Referees. This initial group comprises existing well-regarded AC Championship Referees who are also either GC Examining Referees or on the GC Rules Committee, experienced GC Examining Referees and experienced GC referees who have already officiated at top class events:

Barry Keen, Bill Arliss, Chris Sheen, Cliff Jones, Dick Strover, Ian Vincent, John Crossland, Kevin Ham, Marcus Evans, Martin French, Michael Hague, Mike Town, Nelson Morrow, Pierre Beaudry, Roger Barnacle, Stephen Mulliner, Tim King, Tony Hall.
