Surbiton beat Chester 6-1

[<<] [>>] by Andy Dibben at Edgbaston
16 Jul 2015 (AC - Mary Rose)

On 16th July Surbiton and Chester played their Mary Rose match at Edgbaston. Our thanks to Edgbaston for providing good lawns, a lovely lunch, fair weather and even a small audience at times to watch the match.

Play was scheduled to start at 10:45 as Edgbaston kindly pointed out that free parking next to the club commenced at 10:30!
Given the distance both teams had to travel it was quite a feat that everybody (apart from Ed) turned up at the club almost exactly on 10:30.

The doubles and 1 of the singles started straight away - the other singles waiting for Ed - who arrived at 12:00 claiming that he had got stuck in traffic. However as his was the first of the mornings games to finish we suspect he may have stopped somewhere on the way up for a bit of practice! In the other singles match Graham got his first ball round quickly and then got a touch of hoop 4 phobia with his second ball allowing David to catch up. Graham eventually got going again and won +8. In the doubles Andy & Chris got the early breaks but Mark and Dennis then got in and went ahead. They reached peg and peg with Andy & Chris both on 4 back. Then Andy managed 2 long hit ins to enable Surbiton to steal the game +2.

Lunch was then taken at 3:30pm! The afternoon games were quicker with Surbiton achieving a 6:1 victory.

It was a very enjoyable day and the matches were played in a very friendly manner.

Results - Surbiton names first:

Chris Roberts (1) & Andy Dibben (1.5) beat Mark Lloyd (0.5) & Dennis Graham (4) +2
Ed Dymock (1.5) beat John Dawson (5) +11
Graham Brightwell (2) beat David Boyde (4.5) +8

Chris Roberts lost to Mark Lloyd -17
Andy Dibben beat Dennis Graham +21
Ed Dymock beat David Boyde +9
Graham Brightwell beat John Dawson +11
