Harrow Oak beat Wrest Park 6-1

[<<] [>>] by Phil Cordingley at Wrest Park
15th July 2000 (AC - Inter-Club)

Conditions: Overcast, windy & cold, but dry.
MVP: Richard Hilditch

Report:
Gary continued in similar vein to his previous IC outings by not playing
well but winning, putting Harrow's first point on the board in beating John
Wheeler. At one point that looked to be the only bright spot of the morning
for Harrow, as Michael Heap struggled to get going after an early ball round
from Phil, and Richard was 2 & 2back against John B's peg and ball box. John
B missed his early shots at the peg, and Richard completed a heroic comeback
with a (not terribly long) series of two ball breaks. At which point Michael
woke up and finished the doubles with a delayed TP, which looked more and
more solid as the turn progressed. So at lunch Harrow had turned a likely
2-1 deficit into a 3-0 lead.

And what a lunch it was, as they say. Wrest Park attempted to fight back by
supplying copious quantities of eminently potable red wine, which
immediately paid dividends as Phil made two errors in his second break and
John Watson clinically cleaned up. Not to fear for Harrow, though, as
Michael continued his late morning form to wipe out Howard with another TP,
this time without reply from the opponent. Richard continued his impression
of the Hilditch of yore by beating John Wheeler, and Gary wrapped things up
by winning a three ball ending against John B.

Harrow meet Cheltenham in the semi-final, to be played by 13th September.
