Letchworth beat Hunstanton 4-2

[<<] [>>] by Nick Mounfield at Letchworth
8th May 2016 (GC - Inter-Club)

The hottest day so far this year saw a repeat of last year's first round match. This year it was Hunstanton's turn to make the four-hour round trip, but unfortunately for the visitors the result was the same with Letchworth running out 4-2 winners.

The morning saw both John Noble (1) and David Tutt (0) win their singles matches - against Pete Brown (4) and Charles Ostler (5) respectively - in straight games to give Letchworth an early 2-0 lead. The doubles match - Nick Mounfield (-3) and Duncan Hector (-1) versus Jeff Race (-1) and David Thirtle-Watts (2) was left in abeyance at one game each with a view to continuing should things be all square after the afternoon session.

As it happened, the third doubles game wasn't required. Nick and John both won their matches 2-0 to establish an unassailable 4-0 lead for the hosts. Hunstanton rallied to win the remaining two singles matches, but unfortunately it was too little, too late.

Letchworth won 4-2 and face Dulwich in the next round.
