Robert Fulford won the East Anglian GC Championship

8 May 2016 (GC - Championships)

The EAGC championship was held over the first warm weekend of the summer and the best field of contestants assembled to compete with eight of the top 30 in the rankings present! As ever, Saturday was a trial of skill and stamina but everyone managed to complete their 10 double-banked games. There were many excellent and close matches but the blocks, completed on Sunday morning, resulting in wins for Robert Fulford & and an in-form Stephen Mulliner with Lionel Tibble & Rachel Rowe as runners up. The blocks finished nearly in ranking order but mention must be made of Dick Strover who came third in his block with as many wins as Rachel and was only beaten by a couple of hoops in their match having tied it one game apiece!
The semi-final went according to ranking and we were left with a mouth-watering final between Fulford & Mulliner. We were not to be disappointed! Stephen won the first game at the thirteenth hoop following some exceptional hoop running. Robert immediately upped his game and took the second 7-1 and so, in front of a dwindling crowd, we had the last game. It was touch-and-go the whole way with many long clearances and hoop running but Robert eventually prevailed 7-5 to take the title again!
