There were no major upsets on Day 1 of the first tier of the World Golf Croquet Team Championship, with all the test matches going to seeding. It was a relatively cool dry day, but with plenty of sunshine, which may have attracted a fair number of spectators.
In Block A, Egypt (the holders and favourites) whitewashed the Ireland 6-0, but the USA had the closest result of the day, beating Sweden 4-2. In Block B, New Zealand beat South Africa and England beat Wales, both 5-1. Full results are available on the Croquet Scores website.
Tomorrow, Monday, will see Egypt playing Sweden; USA v Ireland; New Zealand v Wales and England v South Africa. A win for England would guarantee them at least a play-off for a place in the semi-final, but a loss would leave them needing to beat New Zealand to progress.
