GCWTC: Tier 1: Day 3: New Zealand bt England 4-2

[<<] [>>] by Dr Ian Vincent at Surbiton
17th May 2016 (World Championship)

On the final day of the initial block stage of Tier 1 of the GC World Team Championship being played at Surbiton, Egypt continued their unbeaten run to win Block A without dropping a match. There was a play-off for second place, in which Ireland beat the USA 2-0, at which point the doubles was abandoned at 4 all.

In Block B, New Zealand beat England 4-2 to win the block. In the other test match, South Africa lead Wales 3-2, with the unfinished match pegged down at one game each.

Thus the semi-final line up for the next two days is Egypt v England and New Zealand v Ireland. USA, Sweden, South Africa and Wales contest a further block for the plate, with the results of their matches in the initial blocks carried forward. England have brought in their fifth squad member, Tobi Savage, in place of Will Gee ... maybe he is their wet weather specialist, as rain is forecast ....
