10 Jul 2016 (AC)

This tournament was moved from its usual slot in June and reduced to two days this year.
The lawns in Eastbourne are in top-rate condition right now and still improving year on year, thanks to the tender loving care of John Crisford. They are basically flat and the surface of the grass is good.
After a late withdrawal, we had a Handicap block of 4 and an Advanced block of 6; at least 2 more in each block would have pleased the manager!
Rather than give the 'Handicap Four' only three games, the Compton Club members entered for the Advanced block played their first round against them, giving away loads of bisques - and winning 3 of the four games. All wins in this first round counted towards the final block results.
Two players remained unbeaten at the end of the tournament - Graham Pegley in the Advanced block and Philip Marshall in the Handicap block.
We will hope to return to holding this tournament in June next year. Check out the fixtures list next year and come to Eastbourne where you will always find a warm welcome, excellent lawns and good food.
