The ever popular Over 50's event was held in the most pleasant weather of the summer and attracted players from nine clubs as far apart as East Dorset and Hull. On the first day Peter Thompson (2.5) got off to a flying start whilst Colin Hemming (0) was also in great form. These two joined Jane Collier (14) on 100% at the close of play. Also showing form were Charlie Martin and Tony Elliott.

Day 2 started with Peter beating the redoubtable Colin and the colourful Al Brown beating Charlie. And so to the in-form Tony who 26ed Colin and also beat Jane and just triumphed over Neil Chalmers who was recapturing his former skills. By the end of the day Tony led the field ahead of the youthful octogenarian, Ron Atkinson.
The final day saw Tony Elliott ensured as the champion with two further wins making it 7 from 8 (88%) whilst the runners up were Neil Chalmers and Jane Collier each with 5 from 7 (71%).

Lunches and teas lived up to the reputation of the Colchester Club and thanks were extended to those members who provided and served the delicious meals. Tony Elliott provided bubbly to celebrate his birthday, not knowing at that time he was to be victorious.

The Colchester lawns get better and better thanks to the work put in by Peter Kenward and the advice of Duncan Hector.
