Dave Foulser won the Edgbaston Advanced Weekend

[<<] [>>] by David Foulser at Edgbaston CC
21 Aug 2016 (AC)

Mixed weather was a feature ranging from lovely sunny weather to heavy pouring rain.

Notable on the first day were two triples by Dave Mundy (the only ones of the weekend), impressive play by relative newcomer Joe Prinold and David Foulser winning his four games emphatically.

Joe, from Surbiton, took up the game in Summer 2015 having an 18 handicap which rapidly reduced to just 4. He shoots consistently well with sound break play which were attributes that saw him inflict a shock defeat on Dave Mundy.

Further games took place on Sunday morning producing four semi-finalists.
Nigel Polhill comfortably beat Dave Mundy whilst David Foulser used all his experience to get the better of Joe Prinold.

The final between Polhill & Foulser was a repeat of their match that morning, which Foulser had won with relative ease, but this time it was played in torrential rain. For most of the contest it seemed that Polhill would get his revenge but when he ran 4-back on a seemingly finishing turn, he just scraped through but could not hit anything. Foulser seized his chance & played faultlessly to make a comeback to clinch the victory & the Tomkinson Shield (see presentation photo below).

Excellent catering & management from all involved.
