The Roehampton End of Season Handicap Tournament, for the 101-year-old Hussars Challenge Cup (with many famous past winners), was played on the 2 sharply contrasting days of 10 and 11 September; the Saturday marred by persistent rain (though never heavy enough to stop play), and the Sunday basking in glorious sunshine.
Five former winners were taking part. The event was played over 5 "Swiss" rounds, with 4 possible winners at the start of the 5th round. At its end 3 players emerged with 4 wins each - Collin Southern (Woking), plus Peter Honey and Adrienne Sackin, both of the home club, the latter of whom had stepped in as a replacement at the last minute, following an entrant's broken mallet.
They had 1 win each in the games against each other, but Collin was the clear winner on the overall "quality of wins" countback, with Peter as runner-up. Collin was one of the previous winners, having done so as long ago as 1994! Many congratulations to him.
