Report on Budleigh May Week Tournament, 1-6 May

In spite of a late start to the tournament due to very heavy rain on the Sunday and Monday morning, prize giving took place as scheduled on Saturday.
Alan Mayne from Bowden CC won the Godfrey Turner Challenge Cup with 7 wins out of 8, 3 players had 5/8 wins, Peter Moore (Budleigh Salterton CC), Chris Roberts (Phyllis Court CC) and Jim Field (Bath CC) with Peter taking 2nd place on quality of wins.
Paul Swaffield (Edgbaston CC) and Stephen Custance-Baker (Taunton CC) both had 7/8 wins but as Paul had beaten Stephen he took home the Woodlands Quaich.
In his first visit to Budleigh Salterton CC, Roger Barnacle (Winchester CC) had a clean sweep of 8/8 wins to take home the J K Brown Memorial Cup. Philip Harris (Sidmouth CC) came a very close second with 7/8 wins.
Judith Moore (Budleigh Salterton Cropqurt Club) won the Pat Tunmer Cup with 5/7 wins. Rosemary Bradshaw (Budleigh Salterton CC) and Kay Martin (Bowden CC) both had 4/7wins, with Rosemary taking second place having beaten Kay.
In the Handicap Singles ( Event 2) with few exceptions the low handicap players swept through to give a X Final between Peter Moore and Bob Burnett ( Crake Valley CC) despite Bob having half and bisque, Peter won +13. In the Y Final, Jim Field beat Judith Moore +7.
The Handicap Doubles X final was between Chris Donovan and Andrew Thomas (Sidmouth CC) and Alan Rush and Philip Shaw (Budleigh Salterton CC ) it was a very close game with Chris and Andrew winning +1T. It was equally as close with the Y final with Dave Mundy and Peter Quinn (Budleigh Salterton CC) beating Brian Shorney (Eardisley CC) and Jane Hull
(Kington Langley CC ) +2T.
