[<<] [>>] by Bill Arliss at Surbiton
4th June 2017 (GC - Championships)

As the GC Inter Counties for 2017 was oversubscribed with two new counties entering, a play-off between the new counties (Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire) and the bottom two teams (Surrey and Oxfordshire) from the 2016 event was played at Surbiton today. The format was simple: all-play-all twice with doubles and singles being reversed in the second meeting between two counties. As in the main event, each team had four players and each match included one doubles and two singles games.

There was some very fierce competition but Surrey fielded a very strong team and were clear winners. The other three were evenly balanced and went into the final round with equal match wins and only a differe4nce of one in net games. Any of the three could have finished second but Northamptonshire finished with a 3-0 win over Oxfordshire to take second place. Oxfordshire gained third place as they had a better net games in their matches with Buckinghamshire.

County Wins Net Games Position
Surrey 5 12 1st
Northamptonshire 3 10 2nd
Oxfordshire 2 7 3rd
Buckinghamshire 2 7 4th
