4 Jun 2017 (GC - Championships)

The GC Championship played on 3rd and 4th of June at Cheltenham was won by Chris Roberts beating Ian Burridge 7-4, 7-4.

There were 32 participants, though the makeup was only resolved at eight thirty on the Saturday. With eight lawns in use all games on Saturday were doubled banked. With eight groups of four. Sixteen went through to the knockout, and the quarter-finals were all concluded on Saturday.
Consolation blocks were arranged for those who were not in, or did not progress in the main event.

The fine weather of Saturday did not return on Sunday with some light rain in the morning and some significant rain during the final which started at one thirty. The games were quite straightforward, with no long contested hoops. The only unconventional moment was when black and yellow were left at hoop one and blue and red contested hoop two. The impasse was broken when black was cannoned onto the wire of hoop one, and so was 'out of play' for a while.

Thanks to Robin and Sarah for the lawn and hoop work, and Jay Dyer as the ROT.

Colin Britt beat Grahame Good 7-6 for third place.
