The Dorset Open GC Championships Result

Ten gathered at the East Dorset for the Dorset Open GC Championships. The format was an all-play-all-block, followed by best-of-3 semi-finals and finals, with a 3rd/4th playoff and a plate.

After the block, Jonathan Powe (-2, 8/9), Richard Brooks (-1, 6/9), Tom Weston (1, 6/9) and Nicholas Archer (-2, 6/9) progressed through to the knockout stages. David Bell (-1, 5/9) and Stephen Custance-Baker (-2, 4/9) missed out narrowly, the latter having lost 4 of his games at the 13th hoop. And there were some very creditable performances from the rest of the field, in particular Gary Brennan (2) who beat two -2 players, and Martin Isles (4) who beat two 1s and took a -1 to the 13th hoop.

In the semis, Jonathan Powe beat Nicholas Archer 7-4, 7-5 and Richard Brooks defeated Tom Weston in a 3-game thriller 7-5, 3-7, 7-6. The last game turned on a couple of shots around the 13th hoop; Richard put his ball in the jaws, leaving Tom a 4-foot jump which hit the right hand wire and bounced away, leaving the hoop at Richard's mercy.

In the Plate, Mark Hamann (1) found some of the form that had deserted him in the block, beating Stephen Custance-Baker 7-5, 7-6 and then Martin Isles (4) 7-3, 7-6 to claim his bottle of wine.
Nicholas Archer won the 3rd/4th Playoff against Tom Weston 7-5, 7-6 and Jonathan Powe beat Richard Brooks in the final 7-5, 7-4.

1st - Jonathan Powe - East Dorset
2nd - Richard Brooks - Sussex CC
3rd - Nicholas Archer - Watford
4th - Tom Weston - East Dorset
