The day started with an unexpected hitch when the Roehampton team arrived at their SW London station on their way to Watford, only to discover that all the trains had just been cancelled because of a combination of a fire on the main line north of Euston and what later transpired to be a bomb on the underground at nearby Parsons Green. Three of them managed to make their way to Watford by car instead, and play started a little late, but with no sign of and no contact with their fourth player Douglas Gurney. So Peter Siddall was left to fend on his own in the doubles with his partner's ball being declared into play. Nevertheless Peter managed to hit in and make the first break to 3-back. Then just as Watford managed to get going with their first break, Douglas appeared too and was able to complete the Roehampton partnership. Thereafter the three morning games were all very closely contested, and by lunch Roehampton had a 2-1 lead, including a win in the doubles.
After lunch the weather turned and the afternoon was played in rain, which seemed to suit the Watford players. Havill, Bennett and Clark all won their singles by a comfortable margin to give Watford a winning 4-2 lead, and so the last game was abandoned in favour of an earlier return journey for the visitors.
