Nottingham Annual Tournament

[<<] [>>] by Peter Death at Nottingham Croquet Club
18th August 2018 (AC - Mixed)

Another full house for this year's Nottingham Week, with 38 players, though 2 of them did not enter all the possible events. Conditions were generally easy, a deluge on the previous weekend having softened the drought-stricken surfaces, but fortunately there was dry weather throughout the hours of play.

The big Handicap, the Robin Hood Cup, saw a range of handicaps from 1 to 18 in the quarter-finals, after 4 days of flexible Swiss competition to find the top 8. The final was between Alex McIntyre and Sophie McGlen, both from Nottingham. Alex won +8 to take the trophy and consign Sophie to the runner-up's Taylor Salver for the second successive year.

The A class had 15 competitors, played as a flexible Swiss until Friday lunchtime, followed by a knockout for the top four. In the semi-finals Ian Vincent beat John Davis and Omied Hallam beat Beatrice McGlen, then Omied beat Ian +13 +15 in the final.

The B Level singles was similarly played as a flexible Swiss followed by a knockout. The semi-finalists were Cliff Daniel, Rob Edlin-White , Ken Jones and Michael Finnigan. In the final Michael beat Cliff +15 +12 to retain the trophy.

The C class (Ordinary level singles) had 6 entries. The top 2 after playing an American block were Alex McIntyre and Andrew Beaumont. In the play-off Alex beat Andrew +14.

The D class (Full bisque base 10 handicap singles) had only 3 entries. The players met each other twice, with Diana Plant winning all her games.
