Idyllic Broadwas hosted its first ever Croquet Association tournament on 1 August and was blessed with very pleasant weather.

Ian Lambert of Broadwas was the emphatic winner of Block A with five wins out of five but sadly had to retire before the final due to health issues.

As runner up in Block A with three wins Russell Robinson of Phyllis Court took his place in the final. Block B was far more keenly contested with local lad Howard Freeman topping the group with three wins including a key 7-6 victory over Naomi Whitehead from Cheltenham.

In the final Russell took full advantage of his unexpected elevation with some quite brilliant hooping and ran out the winner 7-3 in next to no time.

Many congratulations to Russell who only started playing four months ago !

Ian's reward for some excellent play in the blocks was a handicap reduction from 7 to 6.

1st: Russell Robinson (Phyllis Court)

2nd: Howard Freeman (Broadwas)

3rd: Naomi Whitehead (Cheltenham)

4th: Lorraine Shepherd (Cheltenham)
