5th Belgian Indoor Open has the go ahead

The Croquet Federation of Belgium is delighted to announce that it has been able to secure dates for an indoor tournament this winter. The 5th Belgian Indoor Open (current holder: Phil Cordingley) will take place on the weekend of 28-29 December, which we hope will give Christmas-sated competititors a rest from their relatives and a change from turkey to crurkey.

As last year, the tournament is due to take place in an enormous carpeted conference hall at the 5-star Chateau du Lac hotel at Genval, just south of Brussels. We aim to provide two nearly fullsize courts, in luxurious surroundings at a special rate.

The format is still to be finalized, but current thinking is tending towards 14pt Advanced, with a one-ball Plate event. Fees of £85/135 EURO include free courtside drinks throughout, a memento for all players, valuable take-away trophies, two lunches (companions welcome at £8 each) and a gala dinner featuring renowned Belgian cuisine (companions welcome at £38).

Deluxe rooms in the hotel are available at about £85 per room per night, which is a fraction of the usual cost, and we hope that Belgium's January sales will already have started so as to tempt non-players. The hotel, which has a heated pool and fitness centre, is a short walk from a mainline station with frequent 30-minute connections to central Brussels.
