High Wycombe beat East Dorset 5-0 (Mary Rose)
For the second year running, High Wycombe met East Dorset in the quarter-final of the Mary Rose. This time it was the South coast club's turn to travel up to Buckinghamshire but, thanks to a traffic incident on the M3, only two of their team had arrived by the scheduled start time. With no indication of when the third player might arrive, the decision was taken to start with the "afternoon" singles.
Chris Roberts completed a rapid victory over Steve Leonard, playing his first game under advanced rules, just as Tom Weston arrived. Richard Peperell won out over David Williams and shortly afterwards Mike Porter defeated Tom, meaning that at lunchtime, Wycombe had an insurmountable 3-0 lead.
In the afternoon doubles, Tom took his first break to peg, and Mike went round and pegged two balls off to leave a one-ball game between Chris and David, with Chris starting on hoop 4. David threatened several times to catch Chris but just failed to do so and Chris hung on for a +4 victory. In the other match, Steve had much more play than in the morning, but Richard prevailed +4 on time to complete a 5-0 victory for the team and to earn his second handicap reduction in as many weeks.
