Jane Collier won the Colchester Mid-Summer Handicap

[<<] [>>] by Patricia Duke-Cox at Colchester
4-6 Aug 2020 (AC - Handicap)

A full house of 16 players competed the Colchester mid-Summer handicap event, ably managed by David Haslam who also competed. Handicaps ranged from 2 to 18. Two or three games a day using the Swiss scheme produced a runaway winner on the third morning in the form of Jane Collier, defending champion. Although she lost to the manager on the third day, she won the trophy once again having beaten Jeff Farrington who also won 5/6 games. Heather Bennett came third and it is good to report that every competitor won at least one game.
Newcomer to the sport, Hugh Gilbert, successfully ran 12 hoops and won the game to earn himself the Silver Merit Award. Unusually, Hugh feels more "in tune" with the game when playing bare-footed, but was reminded that he would not be able to claim in the event of an accident to his feet. He thoroughly enjoyed the event and found the club and players warm and welcoming.
