The game was played at a midway neutral venue, High Wycombe on their two very good lawns. At the lunch break, Sussex County were 2-0 ahead after wins in the doubles and one singles, but the second singles was finely balanced at 1-1 with Linda Gavigan fighting back in the second game to level against the lower handicapped Stuart Smith.

Lunch was taken in the sunshine, after which Sussex County managed to take control, winning the next 4 singles matches to complete a win by 6 1/2 to 1/2. An enjoyable day's croquet, played in the usual friendly spirit, and the opportunity to meet and play opponents from a distant area. After tea & cake, and a big thank you to their High Wycombe host for the friendly and caring welcome they had received, both teams headed back towards the motorway and the end of what was a long day.
