James Death won the inaugural Hurlingham Cup Open Weekend (13-15 August), beating Samir Patel +17STP, +16SXP, -4TP, +26TP in a high quality final. Mark Ormerod won the Plate event, beating Alain Giraud +8TP in the single game final. The event attracted a strong entry of 20 minus players (including seven from the GB Squad), and was run in a championship style format. Whilst James secured the Hurlingham Cup and a 12 bottle case of Bordeaux, there were several magnums and bottles of champagne for the rest of the field. Following the tournament's success, it is planned to apply for CA Championship status and to make the event an annual fixture. For full results see www.croquetscores.com.
