David Maugham won the North of England Championship at Bowdon, beating James Death -25tp, +26tp, +26tp in the final. Full results are on CroquetScores and in the Rankings.

There was a slightly reduced field of just 12, and the hoops were all set to about 1/32" in averagely firm ground, but the lawns had some speed variations with brown and green patches due to the recent dry weather, making them trickier than usual. The weather was fine all weekend.

The first round went with seeding, but in the quarters Ian Lines beat Angharrad Walters and Debbie Lines beat Joel Taylor. However, in the semis both lost, to James Death and David Maugham respectively, although Debbie had good chances against David in their decider. In the final, both players made only one or two errors, but James missed a few shots allowing David to win his 14th Northerns title 2-1.

In the plate knockout, Joel Taylor beat Annabel McDiarmid in the final.

The trophies were presented by Bowdon Club President Brian Storey, and thanks were giving to Bowdon for hosting the event, to Alan Mayne for preparing the lawns and for setting the hoops so well and to the team of volunteers who provided excellent lunches and teas for players and visitors.
