Seven-times Mary Rose winners Bowdon had a four hour morning drive to Surbiton but arrived in good time for the start of this year's final. After heavy rain the day before, we had a clear and often sunny autumn day. The doubles pairs found Surbiton's Lawn 2 challenging and in the first two hours three of the players struggled through only three hoops between them, though Andrew Wise managed a break to 3 back. As a result the doubles had to be pegged down and was later abandoned. Meanwhile Bowdon's Charles Harding beat Stephen Allen and Hurlingham's Guy Hewitt beat Adrian Apps to level the score at the lunch break. Michael Sandler beat Alan Chance to give Bowdon a temporary lead in the afternoon but all three of the remaining Hurlingham team won their singles, with Guy Hewitt sealing his second victory in a close and exciting finish, +2 on time, to give Hurlingham their second Mary Rose win on the tenth anniversary of the first. Many thanks to Surbiton for their excellent hospitality as always.
