Woking lost to Nottingham 2-5

16th April 2023 (AC - Inter-Club)

Woking hosted Nottingham on Sunday April 16th in an early 2023 AC Interclub match. You have to go back to 2014 for the last time these two teams met in this competition. Two very evenly matched teams (both combined handicaps being -3) met up on a very pleasant Sunday morning in Woking. In fact the weather was kind all day as rapid progress was made on easy paced lawns in a very picturesque early spring setting.

Nottingham dominated the morning session winning the doubles (neither pair opting for ASD) and the two singles fairly easily as the visitors found the conditions to their liking. A short break for a light lunch was followed by the four remaining singles. The home team decided to give their supporters something to cheer about as they quickly won at top pair, Jeff Dawson completing a very controlled tpo against Omied Hallam. Neal Bacon put up a fight against Mike Town but Mike eventually triumphed to leave the match poised at 3-2.

However Nottingham captain, John Davis decided enough was enough as he beat Malcolm Bigg, finishing with a 1 metre slightly angled bombard peg out to raise a cheer of appreciation from the crowd. Alex McIntyre finished soon afterwards against Andrew Dutton to leave Nottingham 5-2 winners and an early place in the semifinal.

Woking is a lovely club in a very pleasant setting. The visitors were made to feel very welcome despite winning!
