Nick Yates wins Roehampton AC B-Level Tournament
Roehampton's AC B Level event (for the Brooke Cup dating from 1935) was played in sunny, breezy weather over the weekend of 27-28 May with a full complement of 16 entrants from far and wide, but including 2 Roehampton members - old stager Peter Siddall and Nick Yates, who was playing his first event at this level.
Four previous winners were in the field, including both last year's and the last pre-covid champion, and another who won as long ago as 1990 !
Despite suffering from a heavy cold Nick Yates won all 3 of his games on the first day, and returned on the second day to play particularly strongly against his nearest rivals, thus winning all 5 of his matches. Past winner, Don Beck from Surbiton, won 4 of his matches to finish as runner-up. Many congratulations to both of them.
