Congratulations to Team Middlesex, Winners of the 2023 AC Inter-County Championship

The 2023 event was won by Middlesex with 9 wins. The whole event came down to the final game between Gabrielle Higgins and Ian Lines of Middlesex and Joe King and Richard Huxley of Berkshire. The match was effectively a final with both sides on 8 wins going into it. With the match tied at 1-1, Middlesex were on peg and penult and Berkshire on 3 and 4 back when time was called, with Joe, who was for 3, with an easy start. Unfortunately Joe mis-approached 5 from a few inches away giving Middlesex their first title in a 6 player event since 1980.

There was also excitement at the bottom when Rich Waterman and Aston Wade of Essex needed an after time almost all round ASD (Alternate Stroke Doubles) turn to beat Oxfordshire and put Yorkshire down with Sussex and Lancashire. In Division 2 GlamorganPlus finished first with 7 wins on game wins over Suffolk. However Suffolk were declared winners, because GlamorganPlus had field three non-qualified players and so were ineligible for winning the division or gaining promotion. Nigel Polhill was the star for Glamorgan, winning all 8 games. Gloucestershire were third and so are also promoted to next year's division one.
