Nick Archer won the Ryde GC Open

The competition was held at Ryde Lawn Tennis & Croquet club on Wednesday and the Thursday the 5th / 6th of July .

The competition was contested by 12 players, 5 travelling from the North Island. The first day consisted of two blocks of 6 with all play all format and the top four progressing to the Knockout based on the best of three and Plate single game on the following day; all based on 13 point games.

The first day was saw a mixture of typical English weather with all being treated to sprinkling of rain, strong gust of winds, overcast and warm sunshine. The players all made good time playing the blocks and completed the first match in the Knockout quarter final and one round of the Plate.

Day two saw the knockout with some matches being strongly contested and lasting well past midday. However, the semi-final saw Nick Archer, winner of the two previous years, and Simon Carter progress to the final. The first game was tightly contested with Nick coming home 7-6, however, the second game saw Nick at his best and power home to a 7-0 win to claim the title for the third year running.

The plate was contested by the remaining players with the players who where unsuccessful in the Quarter final dropping into the plate with the final contested by Pam Sim and Vernon Gibbs with Pam coming out on top 7 5.
