The first round of the knock out produced some exciting croquet.

Matthew Essick won two games in around 90 minutes to beat Robert Wilkinson at Roehampton. Other winners at Roehampton were British Open Champion Mark Avery and Gabrielle Higgins. Andrew Johnston(Ireland) defeated David Maugham in a long close match +1 in the third.

At Surbiton seeds Robert Fletcher and Jose Riva both won convincingly The other two matches both went to three with Zack Watson (USA) and Gavin Carter winning.

At Hurlingham Reg Bamford had a tough first game against Aston Wade winning +1. Then won the second convincingly.

Robert Fulford had a scare against the young Blake Fields(USA). Blake won the first and was ahead in the third before Robert won with a triple peel.

Winners in two games were James Death, Logan McCorkindale (NZ), Harry Fisher and Alain Giraud.

In an all USA match Stephen Morgan beat Ben Rothman 2-1.

In an exciting match on lawn 1 Thomas Balding (USA) won a one ball ending in the third +5 to beat Stephen Mulliner.

Knock out matches will continue Thursday with all matches best of five.
