30th August 2023 (GC)

The inaugural Czech GC Open was held in the UNESCO World Heritage town of Telc in southern Czechia.

16 players from 7 countries Czech, Finland, Spain, Austria, Wales, Mexico and England.

Split into 2 groups of 8.

Block A was dominated by Brian Lozano of Mexico winning all 7 group matches with Havlik & Dokosil (Czech) and Gunther (Austria) all on 4 wins.

Block B was tighter with Hagleberg (Finland) on 6 wins closely followed by Leonard (England) 5 wins with Stankus (Czech) and Gonzalez (Spain) completing the group qualifiers on 4 wins apiece.

Block B qualifiers dominated the quarter finals by all beating their block A counterparts so all meeting agin in the semi finals.

Leonard beat Stankus 7-6, 7-6 in a very close encounter whilst Hagleberg over came Gonzales 2 sets to 1.

After tight semi finals it was expected to be a close final…. This never happened due to Leonard racing into a 6-1 lead in the first game and running out an easy winner of the 1st Czech GC Open 7-3, 7-2.

A friendly welcome, meeting some nice people in a beautiful old town, superb weather and playing croquet… superb.
