Heaton Park Challenges

[<<] [>>] by Geoff Young
30th September 2003 (AC - Handicap)

14 players enjoyed a weekend of great weather and great lawns on each day. A tight time limit of two hours meant that most who stayed till dusk got four games, and a few five.

The highlight of Saturday's Advanced came in the first round, when Ian Lines achieved his first competitive sextuple peel. Not surprisingly, he then proceeded to win four more games to be overall winner. The only one of his victims to win his other four was Dave Nick, to take second spot.

The Sunday Handicap event, 18-point games full bisque base 4, also produced plenty of games all round. The clean sweep this time was by another Bowdonite in Rupert Webb, with Bury's Paul Rigge on four out of five. Bury also provided both third prize winners in Margaret Anderton and Colleen Forkin.
