(GC - Tournaments)
After 30 days without rain (unheard of before in July in North Cornwall!), conditions for Bude CC's first D-Level Series could be described as "tricky". Lawns like glass and quite bumpy, and hoops rigidly set in new holes (courtesy of a 20mm diameter hammer drill to get through the baked earth - photo) presented a good challenge for the 8 contestants from Bude, Budleigh Salterton and Taunton Deane. The majority of block games were very close, with 7 of the 12 block games decided by a single point. Block A was won by Valerie Langdown, followed by Ray Haylock, both in their first tournaments. Block B was won convincingly by Eddie Piper-Mayo, in her second tournament, with 3 wins from 3, with John Warren in 2nd place.
Our 2 block winners made it through the Semis to a high-quality Final, where Eddie narrowly beat Valerie to secure her first tournament win.
The Plate was won by Roger Isaac, narrowly beating Zoe Cox.
With Cornish Pasties for lunch and cream scones before the final round (the right way up of course - Jam First!) it was a very successful first Series tournament for this new venue, only very recently 10 years old.
