Croquet England's Trustees have noted the recent UK Supreme Court judgement in For Women Scotland v The Scottish Ministers. We know that many clubs and players have questions about the judgment and what it means for them.
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) have issued an interim update which concurs that the "judgement has implications for ... sporting bodies". It goes on to state that "There are rules about when competitive sports can be single-sex, which we intend to address separately in due course."
Whilst most Croquet England events are open to all, the Trustees recognise that there are a number of events which may be impacted, and clubs may also be looking for further guidance. We look forward to the conclusions of the EHRC review. If changes are required to our policies, procedures or guidance, we aim to have these in place prior to the start of the 2026 season.
The EHRC are currently updating their Code of Practice, to ensure that it is both an accurate interpretation of the law and clear to those who use it. They have launched a consultation on these updates, and we encourage subscribers with a strong view to find time to contribute.
