Ashby took on Leicester at home for their second round match in the GC bowl.
Despite an ominous weather forecast it stayed mostly dry with sunny intervals and a good day was had by all.
Maurice Upton (Ashby) took on Mark Baverstock (Leicester), who seemed to read the lawn from the word go. Maurice battled on bravely but in the end he lost on the golden hoop in both games.
Pete Bensley (Ashby) played a long game against Susan Lansdale (Leicester) , narrowly missing out 6-7 in the first game, but coming through on the next two to win the rubber.
Julie Boulton and Steph White (Ashby) were still asleep during the first doubles game, losing 1-7 against Phil Selvidge and Rob Wakefield (Leicester). However, that seemed to act as a wakeup call and they won the next two games.
Three of the afternoon singles were completed, some with good long clearances and long hoop running. They all went Ashby's way.
The remaining singles was proving to be very tight, standing at one game each. It was agreed not to contest the next one since the final result of the match would not be affected. Accordingly, Ashby won 5-1 and now look forward to meeting Nottingham in the quarter final.
