Report:

The match was played on the immaculate lawns of the Roehampton Club. In the morning doubles, in the face of solid alternate stroke play by Elaine and Jenny of the home club, Ealing's Margaret belied her handicap to make two very tidy breaks, and Tony added a late break to confirm the win shortly before time expired. Meanwhile, Roehampton won both the morning singles matches, albeit Howard's victory over John was an extremely tight affair, secured by just 2 hoops on time. So, 2-1 to Roehampton at lunch.

After an extremely sociable meal kindly provided by the hosts, during which the teams were oblivious to a brief thunderstorm which "refreshed" the courts, the afternoon singles commenced. Three of the matches were tight and competitive throughout, and they all resulted in wins by "+4 on time", with Howard winning again against Sean, but Ealing's John and Margaret beating Jenny and Mark respectively. In the tussle between the lowest handicapped players, Elaine started well, but Tony eventually overtook her, to peg out in his final turn after time had been called, and secure a close 4-3 overall victory for Ealing.

Everyone enjoyed the match, played in excellent spirit on superb courts.
