Howard Bottomley and Steve Jones write:
In the morning, David Wooley played Alan Ringer, a rapidly improving 8 (so it proved in the afternoon) and managed to peg out, winning by 4.
Elaine Newman and Steve Jones played in the doubles against Neil Charman and Harry Bruford, with five and a half bisques, winning +9 on time.
In the afternoon, David Wooley played Fergal Smith (3.5), Elaine Newman played Harry Bruford (11), and Steve Jones played Alan Ringer.
Elaine Newman took an early lead and looked to be doing well. Unfortunately, her opponent started hitting in and, slowly, her bisques were used up she ended up losing by 9.
Steve Jones lost -9 after a close encounter with Alan making a good hit in. after Steve had gone round.
In the decider, David Wooley was ahead and got a chance to make a break. He proceeded to go all the way to the peg, but not without a few scares. Several times in his break, he got out of position, and played some very brave shots and several long hoop shots. However, after running rover with his second ball, he roqueted his partner ball into the peg - oh dear. Fortunately for David, Fergal was not joined up and did not hit allowing David to calmly peg out and win +10.
